Making the Electronics in Your Home Safer for Small Children

Once a baby starts crawling, the home looks very different from floor level. Cables, chargers and furniture-mounted screens all become things to grab or pull. A few simple changes make a big difference.
Anchor TVs and furniture
Anchor televisions and the furniture they stand on. Wall-mount the TV where possible, or fit anti-tip straps that fix both the set and the cabinet to the wall.

Keep cords out of reach
Keep cords out of reach. Route charging cables behind furniture, use cable clips or covers, and unplug chargers when they are not in use so a loose cable end is never live in a child's hands.
Store coin batteries safely
Watch out for small batteries. Remote controls, scales and some toys use coin cells, which are dangerous if swallowed. Choose devices with screw-fastened battery covers and store spares well out of reach.
Headphones for children
When children are old enough for their own headphones, pick a model with a built-in volume limit, and check the setting from time to time.
